MTIAPI’s intensive course in Basic Medical Coding and Billing
The Medical Transcription Industry Association of the Philippines, Inc. (MTIAPI) recently concluded its first short but intensive course in Basic Medical Coding and Billing which was held from February 10 through 16 at the Philippine Trade Training Center. This training was a result of a collaborative effort by MTIAPI, CITEM-DTI and Media Focus.
“The Medical Coding and Billing Training is only the first of MTIAPI’s series of seminars and workshops in order to beef up the Philippines’ new generation of workforce that is now expanding into servicing the entire health information management sector,” said Myla Rose Mundo-Reyes, MTIAPI President.
Various medical careers relating to health information management are opening new avenues of challenging career growth and great earning potentials. She added that with increasing demands in US healthcare documentation, MTIAPI is now looking at opening these opportunities to provide employment to thousands of displaced medical and nursing graduates in the Philippines. According to Reyes, “There’s a huge opportunity for the Philippines to carve out a substantial share of outsourced services in the US healthcare documentation sector such as medical transcription, coding, billing, patient education, electronic health record, digital archiving, medical claims recovery and management and so much more.”
Participants of the medical coding and billing training were highly satisfied with the conduct of training and requested for more sessions similar to this. “This seminar was an eye-opener to possible business opportunities in the medical billing/coding industry,” Aileen Ced from the Medserve Healthcare Services Corporation said.
MTIAPI will also be offering re-tooling programs to raise the level of competitiveness of Medical Transcriptionists in the country through continuing education, certification and speech recognition editing training. These programs will be offered to MT companies and schools, as well as independent or home-based MT practitioners.
